About Gregory
Gregory Holt is a choreographer and community organizer currently residing in Philadelphia. His dances are refined, process-based works highlighting the social intelligence of choreography, within and among people. Gregory’s work has been shown across the US, in Canada, and in Europe. He was a 2011 LAB Fellow, and an artist-in-residence at Mascher Space Cooperative for 7 years.

About Gregory's Creative Process
We are made of collectivities - of cells, of sensation, of those whose economies intersect our own. I engage inner, yet shared, movement; the trained vocabulary of gesture, somatic possibility, and lived history. With body practice, I can hallucinate in parallel to constraints of anatomy or economy rather than become simply produced by them. Not through distance, but by inhabiting them differently. I value building meaning through relationship and interdependence, where I also ground my politics.

What does the dance/performance world need more of? Less of?
More care, more spill, more failure, more public, less capacity, less cosmopolitanism, less consensus

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? 10 years?
Here! Or, I mean, something like it. I mean radically committed to my non-trad fam, working in local body poetics.

What’s the best space for making dance, and why?
Somewhere shared and easy to get to. It’s important for me to separate a bit from my distractions, but I also find it necessary to be engaged and showing up for a broader conversation, or I lose my own interest. Right now, this is my friend’s massage studio around the corner. It could also be Mascher Space Co-op, or the Whole Shebang.
