Single Occupancy is a new work by Lauren Bakst and Yuri Masnyj, and is a part of the Open Sessions exhibition at The Drawing Center, "Name It by Trying to Name It."
Single Occupancy involves a body, a monitor, and a stack of objects. These materials create the conditions for the construction of landscape and portraiture, using absence and abstraction to establish the presence of the figure. In Single Occupancy, the image functions as a recording and a disappearance—the performance, a practice in the sensation of artifice.
